The challenge
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the NSW Government imposed a range of hygiene and reporting requirements on businesses, such as keeping a record and contact details of all visitors. Businesses can only be classified as COVIDSafe if they can produce their COVIDSafe plan and then demonstrate that all elements are actually in place when audited on the spot. The plan involves adhering to strict guidelines around physical distancing, cleaning and hygiene practices, record-keeping and the wellbeing of staff and visitors.
Beaches Coworking was keen to comply and get official COVIDSafe status. As Gavin Merwood explains, health and safety is a key priority for the company: “To us, our members are like an extension of our own family. Beaches Coworking runs two co-working spaces on Sydney’s Northern Beaches with the motto “connect - create - collaborate”. Its members-only workspaces provide seamless technology and personalised service in a collaborative atmosphere. The company runs monthly events and offers reservable meeting rooms and breakout rooms.
The solution
The admin involved in compliance was intense, but one of Beaches’s members came up with a near-instant solution. Adam Ginsburg is the founder of Buzzy, a flexible, powerful and quick app creator, that allows online and offline mobile apps to be created with no coding.

Starting out with a piece of paper and a clipboard at 10am, Beaches Coworking had a live Covid Tracing App ready to go by 10.30am. The actual app creation time took just ten minutes. The app, which also works for other small businesses such as retail, cafés and restaurants, enables Beaches Coworking to implement accurate record keeping safely.
